Status Updates From The Collected Stories

"June Recital" is about is like 56 pages long. I like my short stories in the twenty page range. She now seems to be calling Miss Eckhart "the old woman".

Miss Eckhart plays the piano at the now vacant house. The vacant house is like a character in the story. This is a short story collection. "Junk Recital" is rather long.

"June Recital" is a long one. One of the main characters, Miss Eckhart, has given music lessons in the "Vacant House" in the story.

In "June Recital" Loch has a fever.

King MacLain deserts Snowdie and their children.

"At the Landing", featuring Jenny and Floyd.

"Livvie": Soloman marries Livvie who is only sixteen. He's much older. Soloman was a colored man. Nine years go by; he kept getting older, eventually giving out. She was still young. She enters into a relationship with Cash, Soloman's hired man.

"The Purple Hat": Is the woman in the purple hat a ghost?

"The Winds" is pretty much prose poetry, not making a lot of sense otherwise.

"Asphodel": Weird characters, no plot.

"Asphodel": something about Greek columns (architecture).

"A Still Moment": Murrell, the outlaw, vs. Lorenzo, man of God.

Not much happening.

In "First Love" Aaron Burr is portrayed as a kind of hero. Really?!

In "A Worn Path" Phoenix buys a paper windmill for her "child".

The Golden Apples (1949) is a critically acclaimed collection of seven interrelated short stories by Eudora Welty, often read as a novel in mosaic form. Having read it in book form, I'm inclined to skip ahead, rather than reread here.

In "Death of a Traveling Salesman" a traveling salesman is helped by a family when his car breaks down. He seems to be having a heart attack.

From "A Vist of Charity": The rest home is a scary place for a little girl, and, in a way, they're afraid of her.

"Flowers for Marjorie" is a murder mystery.

Mr. Marblehall has two wives. Nobody seems to care.
