Levels of grimdark that would make a lot of grimdark fantasy curl its toes.

The writing is serviceable - it's the ideas I like in these books.

Have just had some head-hopping, which I was taught not to do in Writing 101 and that's a "rule" I've seen no reason to break since.

Though, to be fair, Stephen King occasionally does this, and he has the chops to make it work.

I read book 2 decades ago, book 1 ~5 years ago, and then I discovered there was a book 3. I had to get it from a used book dealer and it was fairly expensive.

But it's good stuff out of the gate, and like the others, really quite grimdark.
