'Jasper Adelstone'. Not obvious that he's the villain of the piece, or anything...I think the erroneous brother is not long for this world, or anyway, will be at death's door and only rally if the heroine promises to marry Lord Leyceister Windward...

There is the normal sneering, underhand baddie who wants to get his hands onthe innocent heroine, and thel wild earl who will turn out right and the staunch but thick headed friend and the besotted rich and aristocratic rival for the male lead's love. Purple prose all round. Still, none of these other works seem to me to rival the badness of 'The Outcast of the Family'. Is it because I read that one first?
