Quite the turnabout tale.
I would have cast Norma Shearer and Joan Crawford 🥰❤️

If you’ve ever seen an old B&W movie called The Women? You would understand completely my love of this story.

It’s odd, captivating, and compelling.
It involves storytelling, writing, and past life incarnation.
It was cool 🆒😆

Fantastic story.
If you’ve never read it, you should, especially given our current “wanna-be kingship” here in the good old USA.
If you’ve never seen the movie starring Connery and Caine, you should. Both men claimed it was the best work they ever did (1975, I believe).
I tend to agree.

Started The Man Who Would Be King.
Didn’t realize that Kipling’s wrote this particular story.
Amusing as hell❣️
Especially when our narrator tells the two Brothers to not “set the office on fire” and to be gone by 9am.
Calm as a cucumber, our narrator is.

Finished The Strange Ride of Morrowbie Jukes.
Kipling makes me smile with the actions of his characters.

Suspension of all offense must be used when reading Empirical period literature. It was a different time, different ways.
And it’s still valuable for the lessons taught.

My Own True Ghost Story
You learn a lot reading Kipling’s works.
About different cultures, peoples, ethics, and values.
And about the human psyche and how utterly unlimited it is🥰😂

The Phantom ‘Rickshaw
A perfectly elegant ghost story.

Halfway through The Phantom ‘Rickshaw, and it’s as wonderfully delicious as the first time I read it many, many years ago in 10th grade English class.
My thanks to Linda Brown! Such a fine lady and fabulous teacher!

Finally done with the Barracks-Room Ballads, including Mandalay which is another one my granddad used to recite.
On to Kipling’s glorious short stories❣️❣️❣️
And there were loads of them ❣️❣️❣️

Still stuck in the barracks room ballads, but one of them, The Young British Soldier! Some lines had me grinning.

Probably not appropriate for children’s ears but I remember quite clearly my granddad reading The Ballad Of Boh Da Thone to me when I was about 8 yrs old….and we laughed and laughed at the letter from Harenda to Captain O’Neill.
My grandad did great voices.❤️
It’s a precious memory.

More Ballads.
Each more lyrical than the ones before.
Each one revealing a bit more empirical history.
Curiously entertaining.
