I was definitely confused during the beginning of this first chapter, but I feel like that was much the point. We got to experience waking up with our main character and not understanding the world we’re living in anymore.

I feel like the story about his dad will definitely be relevant as the book progresses, and I’m interested in learning more about his childhood.
