Status Updates From Jayne Eyre

I don't understand why Jane Eyre's cousin St. John Rivers wants to marry her when he's in love w/ Rosamond Oliver. Why is she so unsuitable for missionary work? Is it because she tempts him? It's weird. How could Jane love Rochester when he was dishonest w/her? I suppose love conquers all here. Although, I was surprised Bertha Mason didn’t play a larger role, unlike in the other inspired stories. Now I've read it.
