We had a few very cold days that I wasn't able to read physical books at all.
And if that wasn't enough, my neck has been killing me because I just kept reading under the blanket for long hours in those cold days.
I ended up just forcing myself to sleep each time the pain became unbearable.
Next time I pick this book I'll finish it.
I loved the tale of Samuel the prophet who choose David!

Neck is getting strained, might read more of this today if I feel better.
Nikos talked about Zorba as if he was a real person, called him George Zorba, and said that he is his favorite person in the world.
This probably means that Zorba the Greek is based on a real life character, or maybe he treats the character he created as if he was a real friend.
Regardless, now I want to read that novel!

This is so fucking beautiful I swear.
The monks in the desert and their kindness.
The marriage tradition of the nomads.
The journey, the endless tales.
I don't have any human contact these days to hear tales out of people's mouths but these books are enough and are delightful.

Not feeling very good honestly, don't think I'll read much today either.
But Nikos is on his most important journey since the start of this book in Sinae, and it's the most magical yet. I love it.

He met and sat down with and talked with Constantine Cavafy, the famous Egyptian/Greek poet, I have his complete poems in my library 😍
If you google Cavafy you won't see him described as Egyptian which is wild! The guy was born in Alexandria/Egypt, the guy was buried in Alexandria/Egypt!
The guy wrote most of his poems about Alexanderia/Egypt
He adored his city!
I love him for loving Alexandria.

Genius or pessimist or fear mongerer?
Nikos just predicted world war 2, and he actually predicted that Russia will be a winner in that war.
But he gravely erred when he thought Europe and its civilization would get destroyed in that war.
And that civilization would move to the east as in Arab countries and Russia!
It's crazy that even back in 1927 people could predict another world war when one was just fought!

This book is freaking awesome!
He is in the event, a travel literature about Egypt in 1926, way too close to many major events in Egypt's history.
It's like you the reader as well is there!
You could read about the revolution of 1919 in Egypt, but you are reading about it.
But when it's someone during the event writing about it, it's like you are there with him, which is just awesome!

Ancient Egyptian Poet was smooth, he wrote this, "It's better to be beside you, than to eat when hungry. Or to rest when tired."
Humans might have invented language to court women I swear 🤣

As an Egyptian, reading books about Egypt fills you with both pride and shame.
Literally, nothing changes in this country.
It's the exact same for 5000 years.
The people are the same.
The rulers are the same.
The religion is the same.
It's like we are doomed to repeat the suffering of our fathers for eternity.
