It's "reins of power" not "reigns of power." You may "reign supreme" but what you have is "free rein." And neither one of them has anything to do with water falling from the sky. Why do so many writers find this so confusing?

Bellwether, not "bell weather." Seriously. Is copy editing dead?

Both the real and the fake Elizabeth Darmons are sometimes referred to as Mrs. Darmon, and sometimes as Lady Darmon. It's not possible for both terms of address to be correct.

One of the French-Canadian thugs is named Frances. One of the male thugs is named Frances. Since "Francis" is the masculine form and "Frances" the feminine form, in English and French, on both sides of the Atlantic, and this isn't something that has changed in the last two hundred years, this is an amazingly silly mistake.

Around page 23, Elizabeth reacts to criticism of the US as criticism of "her homeland," but everything else says she's English. The the recounting of Amos' history includes the tidbit of "loyalists" leaving the US for Canada during the War of 1812. Depending on which date you chose, the US is between twenty and forty years old at that point, and anyone leaving the US for Canada then is not a "loyalist."
