This installment has proven to be a real disappointment. I slept through part of the first chapter, which was very boring, and the second chapter wasn't much better. I'm taking a break from it. Hopefully, when I return, I'll find a reason to finish it.

Episode Two takes its inspiration from The Picture of Dorian Grey. Not sure I entirely understood how the villain of the piece operated, but I still enjoyed the performances. Leela's irritation with having to sit through Oscar Wilde's play was, for me, the high point of the episode. She's such a perfect fit, I can't imagine this series without her (even though she's only around for series three and four).

So we've got two characters who appeared in one episode of Doctor Who back in the mid-70s, and here it is a decade into the next millennium, and they've got their own spin-off. And it's brilliant stuff. It's just a pleasure listening to these two English gentlemen in character, and for this season, the Doctor's "savage" companion, Leela, is the perfect foil.
