Status Updates From African Delights

The narrator says that Matilda died some 3 weeks or so after he had left the suit but it feels like more time had passed between the suit, her joining the women's group and partaking in all those events and activities that led to the party she threw for her new circle of friends.

On page 19 the narrator said that it was his habit to spend his lunchtime at Matilda's house and does not indicate a change in the habit on the day that he left his suit. Was this a deliberate gap left in the plot or will it become clear later? I ask because Philemon could not have discovered them during lunchtime as he had returned partway to his work that morning. Is it then that the bus wait and ride took 6 hours?
