The florentine codex came up twice during my studies; it is the first record of lignum nephriticum; the first fluorescence substance ever discovered, described by prominent scientists before they could even grasp the concept of fluorescence. The codex was also used to name the salamander species of Ambystoma Mexicanum aka "axolotl" after aztec god Xolotl. Both relevant to the field of regenerative medicine.
