And so it stays.
I count not cost
Nor look for ways
To love again
For I love still
And love is pain
And pain is naught
And love, like light,
Cannot be caught
And sun and rain
And nights and days
My heart have tossed
A thousand ways.
For love like light,
Cannot be caught.
Fingers closed tight
Hold naught.

I love when an author manufactures a poet as a character so we can see their otherwise unacknowledged poetic prowess

What would I know?—

Is what I have
All that I lose?
Is what I lose
All that I keep?
If my heart could
How would it choose?
And must it choose,
Poor heart, to weep?
