Status Updates From A Girl Named Disaster

This poor girl. I wonder if my girls are picturing themselves in this situation. It’s heartbreaking - this chapter ends on Nhamo’s description of impending starvation. Oh, my heart!

Reading this again with Penny & Liza. I love this story.

As the wet-dry seasons change, so does Nhamo's feelings towards her situation. She's been isolated for at least a few months. She even lost something dear to her... but there's other changes as well. Rumpy the baboon no longer has an injured foot. But how?

Wow. Nhamo has been out here mostly alone for quite a while. She has baboons to keep her company, but when was the last time she spoke to a living human? Still, she's resilient and resourceful.

Nhamo's journey begins, and I really like the elements of spiritualism here. And as she crosses both a river and a lake physically, she crosses another river as well- in a more "red spiritual sense". And there's a map in the front that details our heroine's journey.

Well damn... That really escalated quickly. Nhamo is hated for something that isn't even her fault. And it seems her grandmother (or ambuya in their tribe's language) is the only one in the tribe (aside from Nhamo herself) that has any sense or morals left. Side note- apparently there is a glossary- it just took me a while to find.

So we got a cast of characters, an entire map, and a girl living with her demanding aunt. Let's see how this goes.
