Two things that Varley disappointingly never mentions: 1) fine dust/sand 2) smaller horizon/view. Big shock to me bc he’s so technical with other things, and also because Mars is so cool for having a smaller field of vision. All in all, Kim Stanley Robinson’s Red Mars trilogy is the hold standard (not bradbury or heinlein sorry)
