"I never saw that", I said. "I used to read about things like that, but I never saw it while I was there."

"Well, it happens, believe me", said Davis, taking a gulp of his Scotch. "Happens all the time."

Karma, nirvana, reincarnation, banzai charges...Asians aren't like us. It had been so easy to believe.

"When I'd enlisted, Diana Ross and the Supremes were still wondering where our love had gone. The first acid rock I encountered belonged to a San Fran hippie who'd shown up in Vietnam after burning his draft card and being confronted with the choice of prison or the Marines. I'd eventually become fond of him, but I never could stomach his music- perhaps because it symbolized a change I wasn't a part of."

I have gotten bored with this book. He has changed from a Vietnam Vet to a war protester and this has really upset me as my husband for in this war and was not honored for his service to his country. I feel that this book is hard to read when I see those who did not honor those who risked their lives to help us live the life we are able to have in this free country.
