Status Updates From Echo

I liked it at first, but now the worldbuilding is grating on me; I'm lukewarm about the characters at best, and actively disinterested in the romance. Will not be finishing.

I don't understand why someone with almost NO combat experience is sent on these missions.

Enjoying so far, but it's hard for me not to yell "THEY'RE EARTHBENDERS, NOT MOVERS" this is not Avatar, Katie...

are you KIDDING me? We're getting a protective switch fir the first time in the last TWENTY pages? FOR REAL?

Ok, false alarm, they opted not to do it because her sister would have been too hard to grab, and the mc "would have felt guilty going without her". So instead they're going to advance the plot. jfc, why wasn't that plan A?

and now rather than doing literally anything useful or in an effort to avert the apocalypse, she is going to fuck ofF to the lake with her bffs, who are supposed to be GUARDING THE RULING BODY FROM THESE THINGS THEY SUSPECT WILL CAUSE THE APOCALYPSE. AND IN ADDITION, SHE wants to go back home where they HAVE to be looking for her, to pick up her sister, just for funsies. WHAT THE FUCK?

I dint understand this novels priorities. They are in the middle of a legit apocalypse with a running countdown until the end day, the mc, who is presumably the Key To Everything has just broken it off prison, she's hiding out with an illegal band of magic users,

Can you even make a functioning gun completely out of metal? What about gun powder?

On the upside, there's another female character, and she's Asian, and not a ~bitch~, and it looks like she and the mc are going to be friends, and that alone is worth the price of admission.

But this is the future, our future from the sounds of it. These new colonists experienced space travel. They know what suns are and why they exist. So why do they touch down and immediately found a religion around suns? I mean, I suppose it could be some insidious cynical desire to control their people, but really, if someone told you that they sun was a god and you needed to worship it now...that really wouldnt fly.

But...the belief in gods, and especially the deification of objects in nature/natural forces came from humanity's need to explain things before we had scientific explanations. They didnt know what a sun was, so it became a god.

Likewise, some of this world exposition just rings false to me - Believers, for example. They're anti-tech folks who migrated from Earth to this planet, who, upon landing, immediately decided to worship the two suns as gods.

I kind of love this idea and that we're just dropped into the world, but the awkward exposition every two sentences is just killing me.

Knock down serious fighting wrapping up, time for a body count. Starting to get the feeling this one may end on a cliffhanger. Not much time left to wrap things up. We'll have to wait and see what the author does.

I finally got some real information to digest about Ash and her father (her heritage). Still not quite sure what to make of this story. The time travel elements with Echoes and timelines are baffling.
