Status Updates From Thirty Poems

I read from this every night before bed and then I send one to Megan and every time she asks me who it is

Everybody quarrels with himself,
climbs from the summit of his discontent
slowly into the vale
on paths as small
as tongues pronouncing attitudes
which have swung around,
and everybody reverts, deserting spirit,
into a bit of happiness,
to take distance from what they imagined.

I have read much worse poems than these and not so often better ones. Glad I have the book.

Only one poem of irritating style so far. The rest are pretty OK.

So far so good. Nice foreword by Middleton, though he is not my favorite translator or poet himself, but what he has to say about the poems selected here is very instructive. And so far the poems have not been as sing-song as I worried they would be. I actually like what I have read thus far.
