Thoughts on winking heroes: Yay or nay?

I’m firmly nay on this one. Winking is best left to creepy uncles.

Ugh I’m so tired of the death bed promise being the motivator for a character’s actions. This is like the third one this month for me.

So the conflict of this is that she’s frustrated by her lack of rights and being disregarded because she’s a woman, so the author’s solution is to have the hero fix everything with his power and money, thus proving that she’s an independent woman? Or….?
The author missed the point of her own book. 🤦🏼‍♀️

I went into this expecting something different I think. This is very light fare and fluffy when I thought it would be more introspective and have more historical context. It’s not bad, I just had to reset my expectations early on.
The conflict is weak though and it’s not going to hold up for the entire book. This is not enemies to lovers at all.

This is original and unoriginal at the same time. I wish the writing was better, I can deal with the many tropes when the writing has depth. 😢

Ugh. The writing style is too simplistic for the subject matter.
