Downloaded a stash of books today. I’m ready for summer. Cue Lewis Carroll. Second half of Legends of the Condor Heroes. Quantum theory. Algospeak. Metamorphoses. El-Mohtar’s new book. I’m ready. Oh and the wedding people. Just in case I want something light.

...I'm surprised he didn't talking about the Banker's drooping mouth in "The Banker's Fate" illustration. OTOH, I would never have picked up on the minstrel show element in this episode were it not for Gardner's explanation...or picked up on the nightmarish hidden image in "The Vanishing" illustration.

Reference to the map described by the German Professor in Sylvie and Bruno Concluded" reminds me of Neil Gaiman's "The Mapmaker." Must be where Gaiman got his inspiration, unless it came from Borges' "On Exactitude in Science" - and if it did, Borges likely got it from Carroll.

Meanwhile, reading this put a smile on my face, literally. A lady at Dunkin' Donuts said it must be a good read because I kept grinning at it. Book lust.

And so it seems I am to read a Martin Gardner book after all. ;) I have read "The Hunting of the Snark" several times in my life; I put this on hold recently with every other edition that I could find in our system, thinking I would pick the best re: illustrations and format and try it out on the kids. The one illustrated by Oleg Lipchenko is probably our best bet, but I have yet to do it.
