Status Updates From A Year in Paradise

There was a really interesting moment where Schmoe compares Rainier to her curvy younger sister, Mt. St. Helens, then goes into an extended hypothetical about what would happen if Rainier erupted. Of course I’m reading this from the future—little does Schmoe know it was MSH that ended up erupting, not Rainier.

So many beautiful passages. I particularly liked a recent one where Schmoe says that people who love the wilderness can find it in the plains, deserts, the deeps of the sea, or—if not near any of those—the wilderness of the sky, which is limitless in its expanse. Indeed!

Not a lot of reading tonight because I had a Library Board meeting to attend, but I did finish “Winter” and am now starting “Spring”. That seems like progress to me.

I’m really enjoying this so far, finding Schmoe to be a very funny writer and his experience falling in love with Tahoma/Rainier is super relatable. There’s only 14 reviews of this book on GoodReads! 😯 Soon to be 15.
