a real durwan - i was confused at first bc it makes a lot of cultural & language references i didn’t quite understand but the persistent human struggle and emotions underlying the motivations of all of these people drew me in eventually. when will this collection get happy :( i keep repeating this but every story makes me feel so hollow and empty. boori ma ur my g i wld never do u dirty like that 😞

gut wrenching

interpreter of maladies - a few pages in i recalled that i read this in senior year of high school in ms othmans class. i remember annotating it & answering questions about it and i remember exactly who was in my group. i remember how unsettled we all were by the story, how we all kind of looked at each other and laughed a short laugh of surprise and confusion. the weird monkey story. i enjoyed it more this time
