The first time I read this I hadn't read Jane Eyre yet and totally believed this was how the book ended lol it's like Jasper Fforde pranked me for my ignorance

Fforde 's ADHD style of writing is sometimes confusing, occasionally annoying, but so far has been engaging and interesting. His decision to give us what happened with Acheron as part of Thursday's statement to the higher ups after the fact was weird and yet somehow makes it more interesting. If anyone else had tried it I'd be bored to tears

Just to make it extra confusing, Jane Eyre has a different ending in Thursday's world, or at least it does at the moment

It's already confusing, because Thursday lives in an alternate reality England in 1985 where a lot of things are different, so I have to pay close attention to see if the books and authors mentioned are any different or if, as it seems, they stayed the same, which is weird .
