Status Updates From The Never Prayer

I was ready to DNF this at 90 pages. But I hate doing that, so I kept soldiering on. The first 50 pages of this novel started out well, but the farther into the plot I read, the more the whole story suffered. The main character is hell-bent on self-destruction, but her psychology simply isn't explained enough to make sense. So she just reads as willfully ridiculous. I stopped rooting for her a long time ago.

Dark, dark situation. The main character is certainly believable, messed up the way people get messed up when they live in poverty. The writing is strong. This novel is engaging to read.

Great beginning! I love stories about real-life hardship and poverty. I dig this.
