Jeremy is talking about how his grandpa would give him looks for not eating the food he was given. My grandpa does the same thing. Even though he likes to mess around and make me laugh, he hates wasting food. If I don't eat my food he'll give me a sinister look.

Jeremy is talking about how every year, at Christmas dinner with his family at his Grandma's house, they gather around and sing. They also play instruments. Every year they all take a turn to perform their musical talent. This reminds me of my grandma, she always loved when I played my flute for her. On Christmas she loved for me to play Christmas songs.

On this page Jeremy talks about how his mom gave him the talk between things he wants and needs. I am familiar with this talk. If I complain because I want something my mom always talks to me about the difference in needing something, and just wanting it to have for fun.

On this page Jeremy talks about how they covered any cracks in the floor with foam to keep the cold air out. In the winter, we cover the bottom of the door, and under neath the couches and stuff to keep the cold air out of the house. Even though we have heating, it's better not to let cold in air at all when it's so bitter outside.

I love how this book is so detailed. When the Country side is described it feels like you are there. The setting is just described perfectly. I can smell, feel, and see everything they smell, feel, and see. It really brings the book to life.

This book is achingly familiar. It reminds me of my childhood in rural western Illinois and especially of my grandparents.
