I am so close to the finish of this book but these last few stories are somehow both very out there, and yet so dry at the same time.

Oh a completely unnecessary transphobic slur. Great.

I, too, possess an unbridled hatred of leaf blowers. Ban them.

Really liked "Floating Like a Goat"! But the others are still just okay and the sentences are still a lot to digest. Everything is so crammed. I am enjoying reading short stories--they make it easy to pick up and put down the book, which I find myself doing anyway, since its so hard to concentrate these days.

Moments of brilliance surface here and there, but there's something overwhelming and flowery about the style that I don't remember from when I first read Summer of the Flesh-Eaters. Maybe my taste in prose has changed?
