For future reference:
Claim - Colonial experience shows firearms were a right (p45)
Fact - Your anecdotes showed nothing related to rights, but rather requirements by law that colonists keep and practice firearms. Legal requirements to do something does not imply a right, rather seems to negate the idea of a right. A legal requirement to take part in public meetings undermines that right, eg.

This book is a mixed bag. Some of the history seems wron-headed and is grounded in questionable secondary scholarship. Other portions are quite strong. The author offers his own views, and they resist easy categorization. For example, he agrees with the majority's conclusion in DC v. Heller (2008), but not their reasoning.

I'm disappointed in the section on the Jamestown colony. The author puts forth several notions that I thought had been shown by historians to be unsupportable myths. His sole source for this part of the narrative is David Price, Love and Hate in Jamestown (2003).
