Tolkien would have undoubtedly hated the malign definition Belloc gives to myth, but he’s actually pretty good on the substance. Belloc uses “legend” to encompass all that is good in myth, and defines myth simply as historical falsehood masquerading as truth.

Interesting and still thought-provoking essay on converting England. Circumstances have changed greatly, but a lot of the considerations remain relevant, and it’s a good structure for thinking about evangelical work in the most ambitious scope.

Very thoughtful and relevant discussion of evangelizing a sceptic. But it is also a profound challenge today - the holiness of the Church is hard to see.
