I'm up to year 1932. The letter writers are no longer starving immigrants, many of their children are well educated and have discovered that they must hide their Jewish faith if they want good jobs with large companies. Some of the letters ask for advice about moving to Palestine. The progression is fascinating but we know what's coming next in Europe.

The forward by Harry Golden is definitely worth reading first. I knew Jewish immigrants wrote to the Bintel Brief with their tsuris [problems], but I had realized their situations would be so sad.
