Hmm. I suspect that the controversy around K2 and Bonatti then must be around where he left the oxygen tanks. I will say that, assuming his portrayal of the actions of the other climbers is accurate, this is the first time when climbers were 'heartless' in not aiding climbers with supplies to their exact location. There's definitely been other circumstances though where camps weren't where they were expected to be.

This book is interesting - it's not written for readers, relying on an underlying knowledge, but also talking about things as if you don't know anything? I will say reading about hanging from mountains on a single rope upside down confirms (not that I needed it confirmed) that I am 100% an armchair mountaineer.

This is definitely not a good intro book, Bonatti is using terminology I have never ONCE come across before and I've read a good 20 mountaineering books by now!
