Status Updates From Soul Machine: The Invention...

The strongest book I have been reading this year, perhaps there is lots of bias in this judgement as it's the subject that most interests me. Tracks the emergence of and conflict over different conceptions of the soul, the mind, and consciousness, starting in early modern period. It doesn't jump, it doesn't blabber, it sheers out when necessary. So far, Makari did a hella fine job writing intellectual history.
