Well, Hugh Trevor-Roper (he of the Hitler diaries fame) certainly doesn’t like the Scotch, in fact even less than the Irish.
Scottish culture ( a thing?) is l second-hand and substandard hand me down Irish apparently.
I’d jump and say that he grossly over simplifies history, never mentions colonial cultural erasure - then cherry picks references.
However, my interest is piqued. I need to source check him.

Found the introduction to be quite thought provoking, with idea of mythologising and creating continuity, as well as authority building. Looking forward to getting into the book.
