There are few figures of the American Century who I find less personally interesting or ideologically compelling as Barry Goldwater, but Perlstein still manages to hold my attention. That being said, the narrator on the audiobook version attempts bad presidential impressions whenever he reads for JFK or LBJ or Nixon and it's extremely grating.
