Status Updates From The Holy Bible, RSV Catholi...

Guys I'm starting to fear the amount of Bible I have left. The end of Kings and Chronicles was really tough, and the prophet books are really bumming me out (idgaf about the New Testament foreshadowing). But hold... I GOT THIS

The divided kingdom books (Amos, Hosea, Micah, Jonah, all wrapped in 2 Kings) are not for the weak (really boring) but this is where the idea of religion as a form of social control really appears in a recognizable/modern sense. Story of Hosea is especially interesting - God "tells" him to marry a harlot and name his kids to diss the part of Israel that has lost their faith. Halfway done though!

Making this update just to say FINALLY ON SOME REALNESS AGAIN. Ecclesiastes is goooood. Solomon is absolutely cooking. Go look up Ch 9 verse 11 mwah he is eating it up I'm gonna quote that to so many thumpers it's crazy

I was approached by an evangical woman and was able to tell her I've read John. I gotta keep going. Samuel is long over, I'm on Kings and Chronicles 2, Solomon has firmly taken over from David. Part of me longs for the Pentateuch bc at least the bookkeeping was separate from the family drama in those. Now the lists are fully mixed with the fun stories and it's misery.

Finished Gospel of John - made me realize how pervasive Christian stories are because I was so bored reading it compared to the many stories in the OT I'm not familiar with.

First Samuel is great. The story of Saul and his beef with David is so compelling.

Much has happened since my last update. Judges, Ruth, Samuel I, many more Psalms. Going to read John now. I've been sharing thoughts with friends and family. No doubt I've gotten numb to the brutality and misery of the OT but been still trying to apply knowledge of the "moral code" set by the pentateuch to these later readings.

Almost through the Pentateuch. Ready to get to the promised land. Moses just got snubbed #wtf
