My native language is Russian and I can tell that English translation lacks in many ways.
Firs of all I don’t understand the audience - if it is for language students it’s not exact word-for-word translation and the original text is for advanced readers anyway - if it’s to share the dissident literary culture there’s no references or explanations of particularities of soviet life that would add context.
