Somebody needs to make a movie about Sylvia “Spanky” Taylor’s experiences. Absolutely horrific.

I’m thinking this reading experience might be like the one I had while reading “Under the Banner of Heaven” because both are about religious/cult groups from very anti-religion authors. As a Christian who believes in religion but also sees harm in certain patterns of belief and formation of beliefs, it takes extra time to consider books like these. The book’s super interesting so far!

I am genuinely having a hard time believing that what I’m reading is anything more than an amazing fiction. How did anyone ever listen to this man and come away with the idea that he was anything more than a raving lunatic and egomaniac????

My fascination with Hubbard has turned into a complete disgust. He was truly a horrific man who lied to everyone, manipulated thousands, and physically and psychologically abused his spouses. I can only imagine I will grow to loathe the man more and more as I continue through the book.
