Finding this one a bit hard to get through too. Never took much thought to "Trigger Warnings" and the like, but the attitude to **** in this book is a bit... well, doesn't sit well. I remember rather enjoying book 1. Not so much 2. And this seems to be in a worse vain of that sort. Still, Soldier on. I've read some meh books over the years. Perhaps we'll see some improvement before the end here.

"I spend the morning and much of the afternoon in bed, moping and pretending to be poorly. Jock brought me no less than three successive cups of his delicious beef-tea, not to mention a sandwich or two from time to time. Johanna tried to take my temperature.
‘Oh no you don’t!’ I cried.
‘But we always take it like that in the States.’" (198-199/241)

"'But you know, these things catch on, they sort of become a fashion. It’s like little boys setting old ladies on fire in dark alleys – one of them does it and they all think they’ve got to.’
I shuddered. Some of my best friends have been old ladies – not to mention little boys." (172/241)

"‘I’m poorly,’ I muttered.
‘Rubbish!’ he bellowed. ‘Nothing a breath of fresh air wouldn’t drive away in a trice. It’s a splendid morning!’
Now, the first thing to remember about landlords is that you cannot tell them to fuck off." (166/241)

I turned my face to the wall, feeling like a collection of passages deleted from the Book of Job." (165/241)

"I was in hoggish slumber when Johanna climbed into my bed, she was glowing with the radiance of a woman who has just won more than eighty pounds from a close friend." (47/241)
