Typographically, 99% of the poem is center-justified. Which finally makes sense--a deeply religious poem, justifying the center. Or to say it another way, justifying God. This becomes even more clear when you read that other center, that of "ARK"--"R," remember, the DOG's letter, so-called, and with precedent in Shakespeare and others--and acknowledge Johnson's thorough application of anagrammatic mishmash...

From the ape at my shoulderblade I see angels. Our embryo dreamt the fishes' sleep, became a ripple, leap-frogged itself, and later a mammal: perception is a slingshot drawn back to first plasm.
