One of my reading goals this year is to explore more Filipino literature.
This month, I’m reading Gapô by Lualhati Bautista. My second after Dekada ’70, a novel about motherhood, resistance, and political awakening during Martial Law.
Gapô is set in Olongapo during the U.S. naval base era and examines identity, power, and belonging.

Different from the view of Filipinos who favoured American base operations...quite insightful (even if the style of the language can be considered *a bit* more antiquated than the current style of Filipino)
