that was quite a ride - wouldn't have worked quite as well were it not for Corben's absolutely magnificent art, will be looking into his other output for sure

the re-release has prefaces and outros by other authors and artists inspired by Corben, among them stand up comedian Patton Oswalt

interesting that the Loc-Nar framing device in the "Heavy Metal" film came from Corben's "Den", I thought it was original to the film

also curious seeing how many different alien cultures and environments Corben dreams up, some being more Middle Eastern whereas others look like Art Nouveau takes on the Aztecs, as well as the "beastmen and laser guns and people riding pterosaurs" universe explored more

can recognise a lot of scenes, characters etc from the "Den" segment in the "Heavy Metal" film but there are some important differences - also BOY HOWDY IS CORBEN'S ARTWORK ABSOLUTELY AMAZING, the way he does lighting and shadow in unnatural colours with the shading in all different nuances of the complementary colour to that of the light is insanely trippy

I finally have an opportunity to read this after having enjoyed the segment in the 1981 animated anthology "Heavy Metal" inspired by it, can already recognise several plot points and scenes - and boy howdy is Richard Corben's artwork ever gorgeous
