Status Updates From Her Unwelcome Inheritance (...

Well…the first five paragraphs alone may be the most surprising, confounding and “What in the world?!” start I’ve read.
Thankfully, the rest of the short first chapter reveals what our characters are doing, and also thankfully eliminating the score of craziest, creepiest possibilities. No idea WHY yet…. but at least they seem sane, lol.

Tod:"I don't keep chickens just for the eggs, you know! Fjalar shall be well-fed tonight, yes he shall!"
Jack:"You named one of your roosters after a herald of Ragnarok?"
Tod:"Not just one, all three."

Jack:"You're a real prince now!"
Quinn:"Prince of what? Prince of dusty furniture and old rooms full of things I mustn't touch? Some kingdom!"
Jack:"But if you go to Faerie, and there's peace, you will be able to hunt and hawk and hike."
Quinn:"Yeah - with guards and squires and guests of court, and - and duty. I'll never be..."
Jack:"Never be what?"
Quinn:"A boy... Just a boy."

Petra:"Why did you leave England to come to America, Uncle Tod?"
Tod:"Well, I suppose you could say I was rather badgered into it. I wouldn't much like to go into detail, but I'd done a few things nobody was proud of - as well as unsuccessfully attempted one or two very dangerous and unpopular things I am extremely proud of."

Hope is unprisonable and inseparable from knowing you are alive, even when you cannot bear to hope as much when you are awake as you do when you are asleep.
