Interesting book. It reads like cracking open a wooden case of goods, it’s taking some work but I think it will be worth it. I’ve noticed the author has a tendency to write extensive and laboring sentences that you must take the time to read emphatically. For that reason this book is taking much longer than a book of this size would normally take.

To read this, I knew my mind needed to be open. Yet it was difficult to relate to the author even as she is a white, Jewish woman. When she recounts stories, she seems to lack black knowledge that I felt aware of since I was young. Her marriage into a black family definitely gives a different approach than being raised around black people.
