Why do i feel like there are a bunch of "inside jokes" going on that go over my head. Its like the author forgot to add context earlier in the story to make certain parts actually make sense

The book is all over the place. Like adhd on drugs! Its all very surface level and a bad attempt at banter. I should dnf but.... ugh
