The Last Earl was a fairly creepy end to the book - imagining myself getting my holiday photos back and seeing a blood-red lake does chill me a bit!

The Old Greenhouse was similar to Uncle Jim - a peaceful, non-scary tale about the ghosts of family.

Uncle Jim was a nice, basic story of a boy meeting a dead relative. I like the idea of fog being a lot of ghosts packed together - it's not one I've heard before (or since).

As a 7-8-year-old, The Haunted Tower was my favourite story of the lot, and I enjoyed it this time round too. It's a very simple tale, but the thought of looking up and seeing those arms signalling in the sunset still creeps me out to this day.

I liked Paget a lot, short though it was. I'm always a sucker for make-it-right ghost stories. :)

Whoo, kissin' cousins! MacAuslan's Castle was nicely written. I liked how the mystery was solved using the poem, but not until the end - it kept me guessing.

The Captain's Yacht was nice - I like the idea of ghosts helping the living.

Humblepuppy was a delight - sweet and a little sad.

Sleeping Bones was a bit too schadenfreudey for me. I like stories with happy endings.

I remember being terrified by The Skeleton Rider at 6 and 7, and at 30 I still found it quite creepy - probably more so if I had read it at night or around Halloween.

The Mourning Brooch was a nice, gentle start. Spooky enough to catch the attention but mild enough for children.
