One of the reasons this book was so great is the supporting characters. The most important supporting character Iggy helped save Ellie and fight at Dodman castle. There was also Xarcandushak the dragon and his wife Ishtar who helped save the Queen and her subjects from the Dodman's ferocious army. Some minor supporting characters pare the Minotaur who broke out of the dungeons with Ellie and the sea monster nebula.

One of the important supporting characters is Cernunos the lord of the wildwood. Queen Osadora believes him to be an ally but I think he is plotting to rule Eidolon for himself. So far he believes in starting a war with the Dodman by letting Queen Isadora's daughter die prison. Cernunos that Ellie was captured and unless the Queen surrendered to the Dodman he would kill Ellie. Cernunos has kept this secret.

I chose this book because I read the first book "The Secret Country" and really enjoyed it. I also like continuing series once I've started one. The biggest reason I wanted to continue reading the series is the well thought out story with many diffrent magical creatures. One of the characters I wanted to learn more about is Ignaeiuos Sorvo Coro Mendel the magical cat who broke out of the Dodman's prison with Ben.
