His interpretations appear to come out of nowhere. He doesn't consider alternative explanations. He doesn't consider, for example, that de Tocqueville and Burke may have not attributed class character to the criminal law in England, or may have condemned the practice of mutilating the corpses of murderers. (How is mutilating a mother who committed infanticide in any way class related, anyway?)
