(5/5) I think the series got darker over time, but the love and warmth always permeated, which really resonated with me in a deep way. These sad sad sad characters. Ugh. Just bravo. And I hope the author is at peace and traipsing with all of his heroes and heroine in the shadowy, angelic, heavenly, labyrinthine, misty, after-life Barcelona. The most genuine, most deeply heartfelt. Bravo.

I can’t even put into coherent thought for how much I’ve loved this series. From when I was in Singapore. At age 17? This book helped me discover my love for the gothic and coming of age. It’s so easy to fall in love with every tragic and delirious character. Most of all I’m awed by the writing.

I don’t think I’ve highlighted more expressions and ambiance portrayal in any other book. Such superb writing (and translating?) and its extra hard to say goodbye because the author is gone. For the longest time I also thought city of mist was part of this. It’s not 😭 it’s so hard to say goodbye.

“The end of the road. It was worth it.” 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭 I’m crying. A longer and more meandering journey than l’amica geniale but with no less attachment. I just dont want to let go…..
