The poem Morte Arthure is of interest to me as I do love learning about the medieval period, but I forgot just how much the Catholic Church surrounded the lives of the common people.
Oh, and apparently France and Flanders as it existed in the poets period existed in the time of 'King' Arthur. Entirely eye roll worthy, but the poem is of its time...

I found that the introduction to the poems and the discussion of the alliterative poem 'Morte Arthure' was incredibly enlightening. The poet opens up his poem with an appeal and prayer to his audience and to God.
It does show it's age with the sheer Catholicism in the beginning, but then we get to the poem itself and I find that the poet can be forgiven for his religious monologue.

Okay, now that I am in a position to actually dedicate my time to this, I am now going to start. This book is made up of two Arthurian poems, both written by anonymous authors. Sir Thomas Malory was reportedly inspired to write his Le Morte d'Arthur by these two poems.
So, I am definitely excited to read these two works as I love Le Morte d'Arthur.

King Arthur is surprisingly central in the alliterative poem. Haven't seen that much! No Gawain (yet?)...

Pretty good intro. Now I have some things to look up re: early Welsh Arthurian texts.
