'From such a vantage, the moors seemed to grow smaller, drawing tight to wrap her in a nest of heather & tangled grasses. It was almost comforting, the rustling of the undergrowth in the faint wind, the gray sky low overhead like a ceiling. She sank the fingers of the hand that still had blood stench on it into the thick, tannin-rich earth until all trace was gone.'

'Spidery writing crawled from the walls & ceiling down onto the bed box & across the floor, covering everything in tangled layers of words, the dark crimson of old blood twining with black & angry orange. Some words were written out in huge brushstrokes 2 feet high; others were written so small that the letters blurred into incomprehensibility. The one thing that united them all was their hate.' ....Sounds comfy. :P

"You like it when I hurt you." The words had the cutting precision of a razor. "You enjoy it. Be careful of how you reply," she said with a steadiness that he had never seen from her. "If you tell me that I am deluded, I will be very, very careful to never hurt you again."

'A sense of shame at their nakedness stole over her, but there was something hot & proud & brittle in the feeling, too, like a beggared queen brought before her conqueror.'

No one had ever told her that the flesh they would become was the husband's, the wife's annihilated in the heat of that thrusting ego.' ....It seems Fern is having a post-wedding-night identity crisis. Interesting.

Everyone hates this book. I can't wait to see if I don't. :D
