Status Updates From Labor in America

It's interesting that union support and membership dropped during the early 1800s when (much like today) workers were forced to choose between work or starvation. In fear of employer retaliation they abandoned unions for work to keep them and their families afloat... Doesn't that sound an awful lot like today even though that was 200 years ago??
