A fascinating history of capital punishment in the US. It was published in 2003, so obviously it doesn't have the most recent information, but has lots of good information, especially about the social movements and ideas that shaped the death penalty.

What I find most disturbing about this book is that the death penalty is not confined solely to history. According to http://www.deathpenaltyinfo.org/execu..., 20 people have had it this year.

Most humane way to bring someone to an early demise? Isn't this somewhat self-contradictory?

I took a hard walk to debate over this - I decided in the end not to remove seemingly macabre interests just since I might scare children. I wondered how defibrillators didn't kill but electric chairs did, until I figured out that the voltage and the particular coursing of the circuitry of such amplitude makes or breaks a person. I find electricity's relation to life fascinating! I was riveted watching my EKG made.

Too morbidly interested to force it done. Interested enough in everything to keep it all. Maybe the Stone novel, or finally calling the Dumas one done enough, but I want to give those more time...

Surprisingly educational. I've already read a number of texts in the bibliography.
